Lately

September 24, 2018

Since that gig at Nublu, I have done my best to book one gig a month!

In February I performed at Silvana

March I was in Mauritius at Kenzi Bar

June, I had the opportunity to perform at Nichole Kobe event

August I performed at Shrine for my birthday

September I performed at Pianos

April, May and July were months when I did not have anything planned, but at this time I have 3 upcoming shows in October: A big one at l'Etage in Paris then back at Pianos and Shrine, which put me back on track for my year's challenge.

This past August, I met this awesome vocalist + Musician from London Amy Fitz Doyley and assisted at one of her performance at Sofar Sound which is (according to their websites) a gig is an intimate show held in an unique venue, like someone's living room or an antique shop. It typically features three artists, playing four songs each. Every lineup is specially curated to give our audiences a diverse show. They have shows everywhere in the United States and also throughout world and so I apply to become one of their performers. I am currently waiting on an answer and truly hope this work this will be an option in the future for me!

This year definitely taught me 3 valuable lessons:

1. Planning Ahead

Booking shows is hard work: it takes time, energy and real organizations. Many time, it is preferable to plan between 6 weeks to 3 months ahead and be on top of it by countlessly following up by email and phone calls. Keeping track of what is going is primordial just to be sure you eventually get a hold of someone who can help.

2. Practice Consistently

It should go without saying, but being consistent with practicing is fundamental for not only growth but also quality of sound. I personally never know when and how health and mindset can affect my performance. In those moment when conditions are not optimal I greatly if not totally rely on my ability to get on autopilot mode so to deliver a great show.

3. Keep Positive

It's a numbers' game...

There will be lots of No's and even more venues not replying to your show inquiries at all: Keep doing it

There will bad days and performances: Keep doing it

There will be great performance and nobody showing up:Keep doing it

Make it your mantra and keep in mind the bigger picture

Final Thoughts

The year is not yet finished and I am still learning, but so far I can honestly tell this has been a very productive and fruitful year, full of surprises!

Thank you for reading and see you in next weeks for more!
